I am the founder of SJR Horsemanship and am based in Kuna, Idaho. I not only train horses, but also run a lesson program for adults and children alike! I strive to develop a strong and trusting relationship between horse and rider, both on the ground and under saddle. I've been working in the business for over 15 years alongside many great horsemen and women. Bringing a psychological approach to horse training, I strive to stand out from my peers. Not only do I have a degree in agricultural business, I am an active member of several local associations. I am on the Idaho Horse Board as well as being on the board of directors for Idaho Horse Council, Western Riding Club, Idaho Ranch Riding Association and Idaho State Horse Association.

Tim is our oldest lesson horse, Tim and Shelby have been together for a very long time. He has been shown in all disciplines including dressage, trail riding, obstacles, liberty, western, saddle seat, jumping, and even learned a few tricks! Tim can be ridden by all student levels and ages from the young riders needing lead around to the adults wanting to learn more advanced maneuvers. He has a very slow comfortable jog that is great for the beginner riders!

WYLIE COYOTE AKA WYLIE

SOUTH STEENS Oregon MUSTANG

Wylie is Shelby's 2010 Teens and Oregon Mustangs Competition Horse, and he has been a part of Shelby's family since then. Wylie is a big bay gelding and is over 16 hands tall. Shelby has shown Wylie over the years in many different disciplines including working equitation, dressage, western, ranch versatility, trail obstacles, liberty, jumping, and tricks! Wylie is ridden by all level of riders; he has very smooth gates but can have big moves too!

DUTCHESS

Dutchess is Shelby's 2012 Teens and Oregon Mustangs Competition Horse. Dutchess can be seen at the horse expos demonstrating some liberty and showing off all her tricks! Dutchess can be ridden both English and western but loves going over obstacles and competing in extreme cowboy races. She is great to use when teaching groundwork exercises, liberty and tricks!

RUBY

Grade quarter horse

Ruby was adopted by Shelby and her family before she was born. Her mom was at a rescue when she was pregnant with Ruby. When she was born, Shelby left school to go see her within the first few hours. Everyone was in love with her and from that day on, she was Shelby's first horse that she raised and trained from birth. They have been on a journey over the years. Ruby has been shown by multiple green riders in multiple disciplines in both English and Western classes. She can be ridden by all level of riders at any age!

WHITE LIGHTENING AKA WHITEY

Salt WElls Wyoming MUstang

Whitey is Shelby's 2016 Mustang Magic Makeover Competition Horse. Shelby has been showing Whitey over the last couple years in many classes including ranch versatility, english, western, jumping, extreme cowboy races and trail. She has done a great job showcasing what Mustangs can do! She is also used in the lesson program; she is smaller in size standing at just 13.2 hands tall.

Freckles is Shelby's up and coming ranch versatility horse. She has limited showing experience but shows lots of potential. She is very fun to ride and work, we are planning to use her in the lesson program in the future. She is one of Shelby's husband Nate's favorite horse to ride on the ranch!

BEATY BUTTE OREGON MUSTANG

Bandit is Shelby's 2016 Idaho Mustang Makeover Competition Horse. He can be seen at the horse expos showing off his liberty maneuvers and tricks. Bandit loves interacting with the audience and never fails to spark smiles and laughs during his demos.

BELLE

SOUTH STEENS OREGON MUSTANG

Belle is Shelby's yearling for 2023 MYWY Mustang Yearling/Washington Youth Competition Horse. Belle has been shown in mountain trail, in hand trail, showmanship and halter classes. We are excited to see how she continues to grow and gain confidence!

MATILDA & BURRITO

BLM BURROS

Matilda and Burrito can be found at the Ranch. They love saying hi to everyone. They can also be seen at horse expos showcasing the amazing things burros can do liberty, tricks, groundwork exercises and they are learning how to pack.

Barn Kitties

We have four barn kitties, the one pictured is named Kitty. She is our oldest of the four and likes to hang around the house. The other three are just over a year old and are full siblings. They are always around, from watching on the mounting block or following you around the ranch. Their names are Captain Hook, Mr. Smee, and Tinker Bell.

EMMY

Emmy lives in the Littles Pen at the Ranch along with the burros. She is a part of the greeting committee. Emmy loves doing groundwork and going over obstacles. She is learning liberty and tricks too!
